On F45 awnings, a plastic knuckle joint connects each support leg to the lead bar (the horizontal bar running along the front edge of the awning case) — the knuckle is the pivoting hinge that lets the leg fold flush into the lead bar for storage and swing out to a locked, load-bearing position when the awning is extended.
