The warranty that applies to a caravan depends on which type you buy from us. There are three situations: brand new Hilltop caravans, our own second-hand caravans, and caravans we sell on behalf of their owners. This page explains each, followed by the full warranty terms and conditions.
Every caravan is serviced before it leaves our yard, and the service report and service sticker are provided. We recommend a service once a year.
Brand new Hilltop caravans
- Brand new Hilltop caravans come with a 3-year extended warranty (additional terms and conditions apply), commencing on the date of delivery.
- A full appliances check is carried out and the report is provided.
- We pass on the benefit of the manufacturers' warranties for the installed appliances and accessories.
- As these are new caravans sold by us, your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 also apply.
- The warranty terms and conditions below apply to these caravans.
Our own second-hand caravans
- Second-hand caravans that we own and sell come with a 3-month warranty unless specified otherwise, commencing on the date of delivery.
- They are serviced before sale, with the service report and sticker provided.
- As these are used caravans sold by us, your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 also apply.
- The warranty terms and conditions below apply to these caravans.
Caravans sold on behalf (consignment)
Some caravans on our yard are sold on behalf of their owners through our Selling on Behalf service.
- Our warranty does not apply to these caravans. The 3-year Hilltop warranty and the 3-month second-hand warranty described above do not cover caravans sold on behalf.
- The sale is made directly between the owner and the buyer. Rolleston Caravans acts as the owner's agent and is not the seller.
- We still service the caravan before sale and provide the service report, so you can make an informed decision. We encourage you to inspect the caravan or arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection.
- If any manufacturer's warranty is still current and transferable, it may continue to apply — ask us and we'll let you know what's available.
- Depending on the circumstances, you may still have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.
Warranty repairs
Rolleston Caravans will undertake all warranty repairs and replacements, free of charge, at our premises in Rolleston. We will not reimburse repairs or replacements carried out by an unauthorised repairer, or where prior written consent has not been obtained from Rolleston Caravans. This applies to the warranties we provide — that is, brand new Hilltop caravans and our own second-hand caravans.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
These terms and conditions apply to the warranties we provide on brand new Hilltop caravans and our own second-hand caravans. They do not apply to caravans sold on behalf of their owners.
General
- In relation to the caravan model only (and not, for the avoidance of doubt, the installed appliances or the appliances and accessories), Rolleston Caravans warrants as set out in this warranty document.
- To the extent possible, Rolleston Caravans will use its reasonable endeavours to pass on the benefit of all manufacturer warranties relating to the installed appliances and/or the appliances and accessories (but, for the avoidance of doubt, not the caravan model) and will make reasonable efforts to ensure the manufacturer honours such warranties.
- Rolleston Caravans is not bound by, nor responsible for, any term, condition, representation or warranty other than that which is given by the manufacturer or by law (including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986).
- Property and ownership in the caravan remains with Rolleston Caravans and does not pass to the purchaser until the purchaser has paid the purchase price in full and, where there is a trade-in (if any), it is delivered to Rolleston Caravans together with the Certificate of Registration, transfer of ownership correctly executed, and confirmation that the trade-in is free of all charges.
- This warranty is subject to the laws of New Zealand and to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
- If any provision of this warranty is found or held to be void, the validity of the remaining provisions is not affected.
- The purchaser or any other person must not assign the benefit of this warranty without the prior written consent of Rolleston Caravans.
Our warranty covers
- Original powder-coated chassis components (excluding adjustments and rubber components).
- Original suspension components (excluding adjustments and rubber components).
- Walls and roofs (warranty limited to delamination, cracking, pitting and deformed cladding).
- Original appliances (fridge, heater, water heater, water pump, oven, grill and hobs, etc.).
- Workmanship and materials against defects.
Not covered under the warranty
The warranty will not apply in certain circumstances, including where the caravan has been:
- Used for a purpose other than that for which it was designed;
- Used for commercial purposes;
- In an accident;
- Towed by a vehicle other than a standard passenger vehicle, or by an inappropriate or unsuitable vehicle or towing setup (for example, a vehicle with insufficient or under-rated towing capacity, or an incorrect or wrongly rated tow ball).
The warranty also does not cover:
- Wear and tear where the caravan has been used for permanent living purposes;
- Tears, punctures and fading to fabric items;
- Damage caused by alterations or repairs undertaken by a repairer without approval;
- Maintenance items that are the responsibility of the purchaser;
- Breakages due to general wear and tear or heavy-handed use, including windows, window hatches, curtains and blinds, floor and carpet, wheels, hatches, locks, corner legs, and outside cladding and trims;
- Any costs associated with diagnosis if the repair is not covered by the contract purchased;
- All expendable parts of your van, including (but not limited to) battery, tyres, hoses, etc.;
- Normal maintenance items such as grease, oil, coolant, refrigerant, clutch and brake linings and/or pads, disc machining, adjustments and alignments, unless required in connection with the repair or replacement of a covered part;
- Repairs or corrosion resulting from such things as (but not limited to) fire, theft, contamination, sand, salt, hail, industrial stones, fallout, chemicals or negligence (such as ignoring gauges, lights or signals), or other causes beyond the control of your authorised dealer (Rolleston Caravans);
- The failure of a covered part that has been caused by the failure of a non-covered part, or where the manufacturer's identification numbers or marks have been altered or removed.
Contract termination
Rolleston Caravans reserves the right to terminate your contract or decline any claim if:
- You fail to disclose any relevant information;
- You make any material misrepresentation as to the condition or standard of your RV before this contract commences;
- You fail to meet the terms and conditions set out in your relevant contract;
- You or anyone acting on your behalf make a false or dishonest statement or claim to support any repair or claim made under your contract.
The extended portion of the warranty (cover we provide over and above your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993) is a discretionary benefit. We may decline a claim under, or withdraw, that extended cover if you, or anyone acting on your behalf, act dishonestly or in bad faith in connection with the warranty — for example, by making a false or dishonest statement or claim to support a repair. This does not affect your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
