Can I apply EternaBond directly over my existing sealant?

Yes, in most cases. Clean away any loose, crumbling, or flaking material, degrease the surface, and apply the EternaBond tape directly over the existing sealant. You do not need to remove sound, adhered sealant underneath.

Do I need a primer?

On most caravan surfaces — aluminium, fibreglass, EPDM, and painted surfaces — no primer is required. On some porous or contaminated surfaces, EternaBond WebSeal primer (available separately from specialist suppliers) improves adhesion further. For typical caravan roof re-sealing, primer is not necessary.

How long does the bond last?

EternaBond is marketed as a permanent sealing solution and is widely used in commercial roofing applications where decades-long performance is expected. In caravan applications, properly applied EternaBond typically outlasts the vehicle.

Can I use this in the rain or on a wet roof?

EternaBond is one of the very few roof tapes that can be applied to a damp surface — making it genuinely useful for emergency waterproofing in the field. For optimal bond strength, a dry, clean surface is always preferable, but the tape will adhere and seal even when the surface is slightly wet.

Will this work on my pop-top caravan?

Yes. EternaBond is widely used on pop-top lid seals. Ensure the surface is clean and apply along the full length of the joint. The tape's permanent flexibility means it handles the movement involved in raising and lowering the pop-top without cracking.

Can EternaBond be removed if needed?

EternaBond is designed as a permanent application. While it can be removed with significant effort (heat gun and careful peeling), it should be considered permanent. Do not use it in applications where removal may be required.

Is 4 inches wide enough for my roof seams?

4 inches (approximately 100mm) is the most popular width for general caravan roof seam sealing — wide enough to bridge a seam with generous overlap on both sides. For very wide seams or full overlap sealing of roof panels, wider rolls are available from specialist suppliers. For most caravan vent surrounds and seams, 4 inches is the correct choice.

What is the difference between EternaBond RoofSeal and WebSeal?

RoofSeal (this product) has a solid polyethylene film backing. WebSeal has a woven fibreglass mesh backing that provides additional reinforcement for heavily textured surfaces. For smooth caravan roofs, RoofSeal is the standard choice.
