Dometic RM2356
Dometic RM2356 – 95L 3-Way Absorption Fridge for Caravans
Dometic is the world's leading name in caravan refrigeration, and the RM2356 is their benchmark 3-cubic-foot model — the most popular absorption fridge size for New Zealand caravans. With 95 litres of total capacity and a 11-litre freezer compartment, it feeds a family for a week and runs silently all night on gas.
The RM2356 features Dometic's patented UES (Universal Energy Selection) system — switchable between automatic energy selection (AES) or manual energy selection (MES). AES mode automatically selects the best available power source so you never have to think about it. You can upgrade to AES at any time simply by resetting the control panel — no new hardware required.

Can I run this on 12V while parked at a campsite?
12V operation on absorption fridges is primarily intended for driving — maintaining temperature while towing. For stationary use, gas or 240V is significantly more efficient. Running 12V absorption off battery while parked will flatten most batteries within hours.
What is the difference between AES and MES?
AES (Automatic Energy Selection) lets the fridge automatically choose the best available power source — it will prioritise 240V when available, then gas. MES (Manual Energy Selection) requires you to manually select the power source. The RM2356 supports both modes; you select which via the UES control panel.
Do I need to install this professionally?
Yes. LPG appliance installation in a caravan in New Zealand must be carried out by a licensed gasfitter. Our workshop can supply and install this fridge — contact us for a quote.
Can I replace my old 3 cubic foot fridge with this one?
Very likely. The RM2356 uses the standard 3 cubic foot cut-out dimensions used by most NZ and Australian caravans for the past 20+ years. Confirm your existing cut-out dimensions against the specs above before ordering.
