Dometic RUC 5208X
Dometic RUC 5208X – 153L Compressor Fridge (12V/24V/240V)
Unlike absorption fridges, the Dometic RUC 5208X is a compressor refrigerator — more efficient on 12V and 24V power, faster to cool, and better suited to solar setups and motorhomes. With 153L of storage in a slim 550mm-wide cabinet, it delivers serious capacity without the fuel cost of a gas system.
The narrow cabinet design maintains maximum kitchen flexibility, and the T-rated cooling system handles the hottest New Zealand and Australian summers with ease. The colour TFT display gives you precise control, and the reversible door suits any layout.

What is the difference between a compressor fridge and an absorption fridge?
A compressor fridge works like your home fridge — an electric motor drives a refrigerant cycle. It's more efficient on 12V/24V power and cools faster, making it ideal for solar-powered setups. An absorption fridge uses heat (gas/12V/240V) to drive a chemical cycle — it's completely silent and can run on gas, making it ideal for gas-powered caravans and extended touring without solar.
Is this good for a solar setup?
Yes. Compressor fridges are significantly more efficient on 12V power than absorption fridges, making them the preferred choice for solar-powered setups. A well-sized solar and battery system can run a compressor fridge indefinitely.
Does this fridge require professional installation?
Electrical connection in a caravan should be done by a qualified electrician for 240V connections. 12V/24V connections can typically be done by a competent DIY person. Contact our workshop if you'd like us to install it.
