Elecbrakes Wireless Caravan Brake Controller
Elecbrakes EB2 Brake Controller – No Vehicle Modification Required
The Elecbrakes EB2 is the latest generation of the most revolutionary brake controller available for New Zealand caravans — because it mounts on the trailer, not in the tow vehicle. This means no modification to your car, no in-cab display to install, and no wiring into your vehicle's brake system. One product fits any tow vehicle.
Using Bluetooth, the Elecbrakes EB2 syncs with your smartphone and uses the phone's accelerometer to detect braking, sampling over 1,000 times per second for smooth, proportional brake response. The companion app lets you monitor brake response, configure gain settings, and manually apply the trailer brakes from your phone. New to the EB2 is built-in SwayControl technology, which helps detect and reduce trailer sway. The unit installs in around 10 minutes via the plug-and-play elecConnect adaptor system, and its electronics are fully encased in urethane resin and rated IP67 (IP68 at the connector) for genuine dust and water resistance. Elecbrakes is designed and assembled in Australia.

Is a brake controller legally required in New Zealand?
In New Zealand, electric brakes are required on trailers with a Gross Trailer Mass (GTM) over 2,000kg. A brake controller is required to activate those brakes. If your caravan has electric brakes and weighs over 2,000kg GTM, you need a brake controller. Check your caravan's compliance plate for its GTM.
Does this work with all tow vehicles?
Yes. Because Elecbrakes mounts on the trailer and communicates via Bluetooth to your smartphone, it works with any tow vehicle that has a standard trailer socket — no special vehicle-side wiring required.
What if I don't have my phone with me while towing?
The Elecbrakes optional EB Controller (available separately) is a physical remote control that replaces the smartphone for towing without a phone. See the Elecbrakes Remote Control in our store.
Does Elecbrakes require professional installation?
The unit is designed for DIY installation using the included loom. However, connecting to your caravan's brake wiring and ensuring correct function should be done carefully. Our workshop can install and set this up for you — contact us for a quote.
