Gas Detector for LPG & Natural Gas
Gas Detector for LPG & Natural Gas – 12V Hard-Wired
LPG gas leaks in a caravan are silent, invisible, and potentially deadly. A hard-wired gas detector is one of the most important safety devices you can install — it detects gas accumulation before it reaches dangerous levels and sounds an alarm before there is any risk of fire or explosion.
This 12V hard-wired detector is designed for permanent installation in your caravan or motorhome, where it monitors continuously for both LPG and natural gas.
Key Features
-
Detects LPG & Natural Gas Monitors for both gas types common in caravan applications
-
12V Hard-Wired Permanent installation, always active when the van is powered
-
Continuous Monitoring Detects gas accumulation before reaching dangerous concentrations
-
Audible Alarm Clearly alerts occupants to a gas leak event
-
Essential Safety Device Required for NZ Warrant of Fitness self-containment certification in many configurations
Why This Matters
Unlike a smoke alarm, a gas detector monitors invisibly and continuously. LPG is heavier than air — it sinks to floor level and can accumulate without any smell until concentrations are already significant. A detector provides the early warning your nose may not.
Add to cart and make your caravan safer.
Operating Voltage: 12V DC (hard-wired)
Detects: LPG (propane/butane) and natural gas
Alarm Type: Audible
Installation: Permanent hard-wired (recommended near floor level for LPG)
Application: Caravan and motorhome gas safety
Where should I install a gas detector?
LPG is heavier than air, so the detector should be installed low down — ideally within 300mm of floor level. Install away from cooking appliances to avoid false alarms from normal cooking activity.
Is a gas detector required for self-containment?
In many configurations yes — a gas detector is required as part of the NZ self-containment certification requirements if LPG appliances are present. Our team can advise on your specific setup.
