When the job is too wide for a 4-inch tape — a large vent flange, a full roof seam overlap, a pop-top lid seal, or a repair over a wide area of failed sealant — the 6-inch EternaBond roll is the professional solution. Maximum coverage, single pass, permanent bond.

EternaBond is the industry standard for permanent caravan roof sealing, trusted by professional workshops and experienced caravanners across New Zealand and Australia. Its proprietary MicroSealant adhesive penetrates micro-imperfections in the substrate, creating a bond that outlasts every conventional sealant, butyl tape, and silicone product on the market.

The 6-inch width is particularly valuable where you need generous overlap on both sides of a seam simultaneously — placing the centreline of the tape over the joint gives 75mm of adhesion on each side, which is the kind of margin that provides real confidence in a permanent repair. It also makes full-width coverage of some flat roof sections possible in a single strip rather than overlapping narrower runs.

New Zealand's climate — high UV, wide temperature swings between alpine nights and summer days, frequent rain — demands a sealing solution that won't degrade, crack, or lose adhesion over time. EternaBond does not dry out, does not harden, and does not fail silently the way conventional sealants do. One proper application and the job is done.

Why EternaBond Beats Standard Sealants

  • Permanent MicroSealant Technology – Proprietary adhesive that penetrates micro-imperfections in the substrate, forming a bond standard tapes and sealants cannot replicate
  • Stays Flexible for Life – Accommodates the natural expansion and contraction of a caravan roof without cracking or peeling
  • Works in Wet Conditions – Can be applied to damp or slightly wet surfaces — invaluable for emergency field repairs
  • No Primer Required on Most Surfaces – Bonds directly to aluminium, fibreglass, EPDM rubber, TPO, polycarbonate, most paints, and timber
  • UV Stable – Designed for permanent outdoor exposure in New Zealand's high-UV environment
  • Temperature Range – Performs from well below freezing to high summer roof temperatures

Key Applications for the 6-Inch Width

  • Full roof panel seam sealing – Wide coverage in a single pass over large seams
  • Large vent and skylight surrounds – Where the flange width requires more than 4 inches of coverage
  • Pop-top lid seals – Full-width seal across the pop-top joint for maximum waterproofing confidence
  • Roof repairs over damaged areas – Cover a wider area of failed or compromised roofing material
  • Wide trim and capping strips – Re-seal large aluminium capping and trim sections
  • Flat roof section coverage – Cover small flat roof areas in a single run rather than overlapping narrower strips
  • Preventative over-sealing – Apply over the full roofline of an older van as a comprehensive preventative measure

Application is Straightforward

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly — remove loose material, dust, and grease
  2. Cut tape to length
  3. Peel backing and press firmly along the seam, working from one end
  4. Roll firmly to ensure full contact and eliminate air pockets
  5. No curing time required — bond is immediate

Also available in 2-inch and 4-inch widths for detail work and standard seam sealing. Add to cart — the wider the coverage, the greater the confidence.

When should I choose the 6-inch width over the 4-inch? Choose the 6-inch when you need wider coverage in a single pass — large vent flanges, pop-top lid joints, wide roof seams, or repair work over a broad area of failed sealant. The extra width means 75mm of adhesion on each side of a centrally placed seam, versus 50mm with the 4-inch. For most standard vent surrounds and roof seams, the 4-inch is sufficient. When in doubt, wider is better for permanent repairs.

Can I apply EternaBond directly over my existing sealant? Yes, in most cases. Remove any loose, crumbling, or flaking material and degrease thoroughly, then apply EternaBond directly over the existing sealant. You do not need to remove sound, well-adhered sealant underneath — EternaBond bonds over it.

Do I need a primer? On most caravan surfaces — aluminium, fibreglass, EPDM, and painted surfaces — no primer is required. For typical caravan roof sealing, primer is not necessary.

How long does the bond last? EternaBond is a permanent sealing solution used in commercial roofing applications where decades of performance are required. In caravan applications, properly applied EternaBond typically outlasts the vehicle.

Can I use this in the rain or on a wet roof? EternaBond is one of the very few roof tapes that will adhere to a damp surface — making it genuinely useful for emergency field repairs. For optimal bond strength, a dry clean surface is always preferable, but the tape will seal in wet conditions when needed.

How many rolls do I need to re-seal a full caravan roof? This depends on your van's size and the number of seams. A typical 6–7 metre caravan has two main longitudinal roof seams plus vent surrounds and end caps. For a full preventative re-seal of all seams using 6-inch tape, one to two rolls is usually sufficient for the main seams, with the 4-inch roll used for vent surrounds and detail work. Can EternaBond be removed if needed? EternaBond is designed as a permanent application and should be treated as such. Removal with heat and considerable effort is possible but it is not a temporary product.

Is the 6-inch roll suitable for fibreglass roofs? Yes. EternaBond bonds directly to fibreglass without primer, making it well-suited to the fibreglass roofs common on Australian and New Zealand caravans and motorhomes.
